Mason Clay ~ Lead Vocals ~ Acoustic Guitar
Mason Clay was born in Chicago and started playing accordion at the age of 5. He discovered the guitar at age 8 and never turned back. As a young man, he followed a calling to sing gospel music where he honed his vocal skills. Through the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, Mason was the lead singer of the band “Roadhouse.” whose original music gained a dedicated following in Chicago & the Midwest. He then formed “Just Another Band,” which enjoyed a 15-year stretch of outstanding live performances. Despite all of the music played and the accolades favored upon him for his skilled vocal performances, the music of the Allman Brother has always resonated with Mason in a way that no other music could.
Hawkeye ~ Drums ~ Percussion ~ Vocals
Christopher “Hawkeye” Mizyk is a believer in the power of music. A Chicago born and raised, formally schooled percussionist, he spent most of his youth traveling and honing his drumming skills for the likes of Curtis Mayfield, Willie Nelson, and Jerry Lewis. He was also Buddy Rich’s trusted drum tech. Night after night, he sat watching and learning from one of the best to ever rule a drum kit. Las Vegas called and he traveled there to play with many of the top show bands. Hawkeye recently has stepped out to front the in-demand acoustic trio, Medicine Man. With Midnight Rider, you will once again find him at home behind the drums, driving the band, seated and serene.
The Professor ~ Guitar ~ Musical Director
THE PROFESSOR – A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jeff “The Professor” Bachemin first came to Chicagoland to complete his music degree at North Central College after attending the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He then migrated to Los Angeles with his band “Mad Anthony” upon their signing with A&M Records. During his time in LA, he also toured with national acts such as The Billy Preston Band, The Association and Lowell George of Little Feat. During his career, he has also worked with artists such as George Benson, B.B. King, Steve Morse and Butch Trucks of the Allman Brothers Band to name a few. The Professor then moved north to Seattle as a District Manager for The Gibson Guitar Company overseeing the Pacific Northwest until he was promoted to Regional Sales Director, which brought him back to Chicago. Since then he has worked with local Chicago acts such as Texas Flood, Lonnie Brooks, and Vertical Jam. Always a devotee of the music of the Allman Brothers Band, The Professor jumped at the chance to celebrate their legacy as a member of Midnight Rider.
Voja ~ Guitar ~ Harmonica ~ Vocals
Voja has roots that run very deep… constantly working to perfect his craft. From the sounds of JJ Cale, Peter Green, Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck to the Sweet perfection of James Taylor, Voja’s diverse set of influences has brought him acclaim as one of Chicago’s finest. Born and raised in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, Voja brings a different twist to the music. As a musician and composer, you can find him playing with Medicine Man, Lonnie Walker, Brother John Kattke, to name a few or with his own Blues/Jazz/Fusion Quartet; Black Jack Blue. Voja and the Professor are the perfect duo to recreate those wonderful double leads and the Blues sensibilities that has made the Allman Brothers so very popular for decades around the world.
Juddzey ~ Keyboards ~ Sax ~ Vocals
Frank “Juddzey” Judd began his music studies at the famous Old Town School of Music while still in kindergarten, during which time his Father taught him music theory on a plectrum banjo. He learned to be a sound and light engineer working with Dave Major & The Minors, The Four Lads, The Four Diamonds, The Four Aces, The New Chordettes and Dick Contino, the original Italian Stallion! Juddzey played with Second Wind in the 80’s before spending a decade as a Contemporary Christian band leader. He also spent considerable time in musical theater with a professional troupe. As a well rounded professional entertainer returning to the Live Music scene, Juddzey has worked with several popular Chicagoland acts such as Evil Wayz, Standing Eight Count, Z Sharp and Pirates Over 40. Juddzey is excited and delighted to be a part of this band of brothers embodying the spirit of the Live Allman Brothers Band musical journey.
Dr. Sweat ~ Percussion ~ Drums ~ Vocals
Since the age of six, music has been a passion for the good doctor. He has been playing with bands in and around the Chicago area since he was 12 years old. His list of professional credits includes The Captain and Tennille, Lou Rawls, Ramsey Lewis as well as a two-week tour of the Australian Coast with Sine … The Band to support the 2000 Olympic Torch Ceremonies. Dr. Sweat has vast experience as a multi-genre musician has found him in professional situations as diverse as the city of Chicago, which he calls home. As talented percussionist and entertainer, Dr. Sweat brings the depth required to give the audience the true Allman Brothers musical experience.
JZ ~ Bass ~ Vocals
Jim “JZ” Zale began his musical journey as a drummer, but soon fell in love with the guitar. This affair has become a life-long passion. He is well respected in Chicago as a gunslinger of sorts with bands like Bad Penny & Goin’ South. He has played with a myriad of national acts, from .38 Special and Molly Hatchet to Ronnie Spector and Jimmy Van Zandt. Always a fan of the Allman Brothers Band, a trip to Macon was somewhat of an eye opening experience. On this pilgrimage, he was enlightened to All Things Allman.
